"For my ecological fantasy novelette The Stallion he used part of some music he’d already composed which fitted the brief really well. It brought out the Arabian Nights-style influences of this tale of colonists on a desert planet locked into a first-contact struggle with hitherto unsuspected inhabitants. The music parallels the juxtaposition between the two sides: vibrant modern rhythms herald the futuristic elements while the sinuous melodies and unusual sound textures reflect the low-tech lifestyles of the indigenous population as well as the imported tribal culture of the colonists."
